Sublimation inks. Better performance on polyester textiles

Sustainability is a subject that is all the more important nowadays. In the printing industry, it is challenging to implement sustainability in your printing process. Sublimation printing is a dye-based process, meaning that the ink becomes part of the material and doesn't create excess layers or waste on the substrate's surface.

Most important benefits of sublimation inks

Sublimation inks are a type of ink used in a process called dye-sublimation printing. This printing method is commonly used to transfer designs onto fabrics and materials with a polymer coating. The sublimation ink is unique in that it sublimates, which means it changes from a solid directly to a gas without passing through a liquid phase under specific temperature and pressure conditions.

The advantage of sublimation printing is that it allows for high-quality, durable, and full-color prints on polyester fabrics. It's commonly used for producing customized sportswear, apparel, soft signage, and more.

In short, the 3 most important benefits are:

  • Vibrant and permanent colors
  • Versatile full-color printing
  • Simple workflow to save time, water and energy

Print workflow with sublimation inks

Using sublimation inks in your printing process is done with two steps:

Step 1: Print
The design is printed with an inkjet printer on sublimation transfer paper with sublimation inks.

Step 2: Image transfer
Printed transfer paper and polyester fabric are processed through a calender. The calender enables the inks to migrate to the fabric.
